Rating Wrestlemania 40 Makeup

As a lifelong wrestling fan, I admit that Wrestlemania 40 was among the best in WWE’s history. The storylines either concluded or started with great reasons. The championships that exchanged hands had exciting matches behind them. But me being me, I was obsessing over the makeup looks that some of the wrestlers rocked through the weekend. From Rhea Ripley’s demented clown look to Bayley’s Egyptian-inspired eyeliner, all these looks were a hit!

Becky Lynch

In her 7th Wrestlemania appearance, “The Man” Becky Lynch arrived with a confident, striking look. Her red-and-black bodysuit with a white boa surrounding her shoulders perfectly matched her makeup look. Red and white eyeshadow blended on her lids while black liner created a triangle with one point reaching to her brow. Her complexion makeup was flawless, set to perfection and blush added dimension to her look. Though Lynch lost her match against Rhea Ripley, she won cool points with this makeup addict.

Rhea Ripley

The Women’s World Champion has had quite the year. She has held her championship for 374 days and leaned into her dominating reign with her appearance on Night 1 of the biggest PLE. Rhea entered the ring with what I immediately dubbed the “Demented Clown” look; pink and purple blended into a diamond around both eyes. A popping blue shadow created a mini diamond on her left eye. On the right eye, there was a bit of writing on her cheekbone. As usual, Rhea rocked bold black lipstick, sealing in a look sure to please goth lovers everywhere.

Jade Cargill

Making her first debut at a WWE PLE (Premium Live Event), Jade Cargill looked flawless in her silver ensemble. Of her 3-person team (alongside Naomi and Bianca Belair), Jade went for a silver smokey eye; dark grey and black blended into the crease and a vivid silver metallic shadow on the lid. A bold silver line ran down the middle of her face and down to her abdomen, a badass touch to a fierce look.

Naomi

She triumphantly returned to WWE back in January during the Royal Rumble. The 2-time Smackdown champion went hard at the “showcase of the immortals” with neon gear and her makeup did not disappoint. Naomi had gold gear (in contrast to her tag team partner Jade Cargill) and the makeup included an electrifying set of neon gold rhinestones all over the eye, neon yellow liner on the outer part of the eyes, and heavy liner. Naomi topped the look with a soft nude lip with a touch of yellow lipstick in the center. Philly certainly felt the glow of this look.

Bianca Belair

The EST of WWE was undeniably the leader of this makeshift tag team. Bianca entered her 4th Wrestlemania determined to continue her win streak (spoiler: she and her teammates won) and ensured that everyone recognized the longest-reigning women’s champion. Belair blended the silver used by Jade Cargill and the gold used by Naomi and mixed the hues into a mesmerizing gear set. Her eyeshadow was gorgeous; Belair used gold in the inner corner to the middle of her lid and black blended into the outer part of her eyes and up into the crease. A touch of mauve blush invigorated Bianca’s complexion, and she used a pretty nude lipstick with a hint of gloss to complete her look.

Asuka

The iconic Japanese superstar flexed her makeup skills with her darkly whimsical look. The 3-time women’s champ and current tag team champion (together with Kairi Sane) used the white foundation as a base. She added black around the face, tying a sense of foreboding into the black used to encapsulate her jaw, mouth, and eyes. Once the design was completed, Asuka used holographic bright pigments to shade around the face, giving a sense of hope. As Asuka was part of the heel (villainous) team, this look was perfect for the dominant wrestler at Wrestlemania.

Kairi Sane

Asuka’s tag team partner and co-champion Kairi Sane returned to the company in late 2023 with a villainous character. Sane opted for a complex yet breathtaking makeup look for her first Wrestlemania back. Complementing Asuka’s look, Kairi created a butterfly wing with black face paint on the right side of her face. She added a mirage of colors to fill in the wing and used blue paint on the eyelid and undereye. White eyeliner was used to add intricate shapes and Kairi finished the look with pink lip stain.

Dakota Kai

The former 2-time tag champ and current leader of Damage Control went for a vampy look to blend in with her teammates. Dakota used a burgundy shadow in the crease of her right eye and a deep purple on the lid, creating a stunning smokey eye. The main event was on the left eye; Kai did a smokey eye using black shadow and topped the look with eyeliner forming a diamond on her eye (similar to Rhea’s look). A pretty purple lipstick finished the look and sealed the deal for the New Zealander.

Bayley

The Role Model chose an Egyptian pharaoh-inspired look for her 6th Wrestlemania and to showcase her attitude towards her match against former friend and stablemate Iyo Sky. Bayley’s gear of blue and gold was stunning, with a set of wings adorning the superstar. Makeup-wise, Bayley used yellow eyeshadow on her lid and added bright yellow liner in small circles above the crease. Blue eyeliner emboldened the look, applied to the lower lash line, and swept out towards the nose. This look screamed victory and (spoiler) Bayley conquered hearts and the championship on Night 2.
